FAQ: FAQ
  • I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL RUNNER, CAN I STILL JOIN KENYA CAMP?
Definitely! Our camps are for runners of all levels, and from all over the world. The only requirement is that you love running. However, if you are used to train only once a week, it may be smart to increase your training load to thrice a week before joining Kenya Camp - that way you can get the full benefit from your camp.
  • HOW DOES THE KENYA CAMP (TRAINING) PROGRAM LOOK LIKE?
Kenya Camp offers a mixed itinerary with a combination of coached training sessions, seminars, and lots of fun activities and experiences. Every morning (except on Sundays) all runners, pacers and coaches meet for the main session. There is a variety of runs (easy runs, trail runs, longruns), and several types of workouts (track sessions, fartlek, threshold-interval) as well as strength sessions. During all our runs we are accompanied be Kenyan pacers who are local athletes that run with you, guide you and talk with you. All sessions are done on the same venues as where the Kenyan elites are training; the local track, the forest, the dirt roads and the famous Moi Ben road. There is the option to have a second training session on most days. Find an example itinerary here. Find an example itinerary here. There will also be several running related seminars, packed with information that will help bring your running to the next level. Whether it comes to training rules, how to get a winning mindset, or nutrition, there is nothing running related that our coaches can’t answer. And offcourse we offer a variety of exciting activities such as meetings with (elite) runners, a visit to a traditional Kalenjin hut, a performance by local singers and dancers, or a visit to a the world famous St. Patrick’s high school and museum, to name a few. We also give you the great opportunity to add a 2-day wildlife safari to Nakuru including an overnight stay within the park for a very competitive price (note; this is optional and at an additional cost).
  • I WANT TO JOIN KENYA CAMP BUT WANT TO STAY LONGER OR NEED TO LEAVE EARLY, IS THAT POSSIBLE?
Yes, that is very possible! To extend your stay, you can find the rates of the Hub and the Lodge online . If needed we can also arrange a personal pacer for the extra days. If you want to leave early we will compensate per night left early at our standard rate.
  • HOW DO I GET TO THE KENYA CAMP ACCOMMODATION?
On your day of arrival, you are picked up (from Eldoret airport) by one of our drivers and taken to your accommodation in Iten. When flying to Kenya, you will land at JKIA (Jomo Kenyatta International Airport). From here you can take a connecting flight to Eldoret. We recommend using Jambojet airline. They fly 3-5 times per day. Check out www.jambojet.com for prices and the flight schedule. Count on 3 hours between arrival at JKIA and departure to Eldoret. You generally need 1 hour to get through customs and to get your luggage, but sometimes it can take up to 2 hours. And also if you have a connecting flight, you still have to pick up your luggage and check it in again for the domestic flight. Check-in for your domestic flight should be done roughly 1 hour before departure. In other words, if you arrive in Nairobi at 16.00, you may not be able to catch the last domestic flight of the day (which often departs at 18.30). In this case we recommend you book a hotel in Nairobi, and take a flight to Eldoret the following day. Kindly let us know if this is the case, then we will recommend you a trusted driver who picks you up and takes you to your hotel and picks you up again the following day. If you have to spend some hours at JKIA, we recommend going to Paul Caffe. It's a good place to relax and eat something, while they look after your luggage. It's also right in front of the check in hall for domestic flights. Once you arrive at Eldoret Airport you will need to travel by car from the airport directly to our accommodation. For 35 euro we can arrange a trusted driver to meet you upon arrival so you don't have to worry about arranging this yourself. Simply let us know the time your flight is scheduled to arrive at Eldoret Airport and tell us that you require a transfer and we will ensure a driver is there to meet you. The journey time from Eldoret Airport to Iten is approximately one hour and ten minutes.
  • CAN I GO ON A SAFARI DURING MY STAY?

  • IS IT SAFE TO DRINK THE WATER IN ITEN?
Although the tap water in Iten is purified, we do not recommend drinking it. It is safe to use for cooking. Both the Lodge and the Hub are equipped with water filters that provide clean drinking water. For those who prefer to use bottled water, we can provide this at cost price.
  • DO YOU HAVE QUALITY WiFi?
Yes, we do. Each bedroom at the Lodge has its own private router with a great connection and fast download speed. At the Hub we offer free wifi at the dining area, which does reach most of the bedrooms too. In addition, we offer a personal router to guests at the Hub, which can be rented.
  • IS ITEN A SAFE PLACE?
Yes. Iten town is a small, quiet, rural town with very low crime rates and is a very friendly and safe community. Both the Lodge and the Hub are on a private, fenced compound with a secure, lockable front gate and are situated away from the main road. Or staff is around to look after you, and apart from that we have CCTV cameras in the compound.
  • DO I NEED A VISA TO TRAVEL TO ITEN/KENYA?
Yes. All travelers to Kenya must have a valid ETA (electronic travel authorisation) to enter the country. This ETA is comparable with a visa and it can be purchased in advance online at the Kenya Government website. Please note that you should ONLY use the website etakenya.go.ke for this and no other agency / website. When applying for the ETA, make sure you apply as a regular tourist, coming for a visit to the country. Once you make a booking with us, we will send you a booking comfirmation, which should be uploaded during the ETA application.
  • DO I NEED VACCINATIONS TO TRAVEL TO ITEN/KENYA?
There are no legal requirements to have vaccinations before entering Kenya unless you are coming from an area where there is a specific danger of contracting yellow fever. Please check the Kenyan Embassy website for your country of residence / nationality for more information. There are other vaccinations you may wish to consider before travelling to Kenya and your health care provider can give you with further information on this. Due to the high altitude in Iten Malaria is not usually an issue and as such anti malarial medications are usually not necessary. However, your travel clinic or health care provider will be able to give you the most up to date advice and information. Note: the above mentioned is considered an advice, and should not be considered to be official medical advice and we recommend that all guests consult with their health care provider before attending a training camp in Iten.
