Kiptabus Loop – Iconic Running Route in Iten, Kenya
The Kiptabus loop in Iten, Kenya is one of the most used loops by runners. Its rolling red clay roads pass by the Kiptabus primary school - hence the name of the loop. Run this route on any schoolday morning and you will see pupils making their way to school. Some of them might try to run with you.
This high altitude trail starts getting tough once you turn left after the primary school. There you will find a pretty steep climb, along some maize fields, for about 500 meters. After that it gets less steep, but it continues to climb for another kilometre, while you pass the house of marathon champion Mary Keitany (the former marathon world record holder, who also won the New York marathon four times and London marathon three times). So despite being just 7km long, this route is pretty challenging.
