Updated: Jun 2

Kibet4Kids provides free education and healthcare to underprivileged Kenyan children. Learn about our mission and how you can help make a lasting impact.

Kibet4Kids has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of Kenyan children. Hundreds of children are enrolled in the free-of-charge public primary schools built and supported by Kibet4Kids. These schools provide quality education in impoverished areas, helping to create better futures for Kenya’s youth.

About Kibet4Kids and Kenya Camp

Kibet4Kids is proudly supported by Kenya Camp, located in the world-renowned running hub of Iten, Kenya. Kenya Camp is a premier training destination for runners of all levels, founded by Coach Hugo van den Broek, a Dutch former elite runner turned professional coach. With over 24 years of experience living and coaching in Kenya, Hugo has created a world-class training environment that immerses runners in the legendary Kenyan running culture.

Whether you are an elite athlete or a passionate amateur, Kenya Camp offers personalized coaching, structured training programs, and an unforgettable experience training at altitude in the home of champions.

Our Leadership: Hilda Kibet and Hugo van den Broek

Born and raised in Kenya until the age of 20, Hilda is a world-class runner who represented The Netherlands at the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games. She studied physiotherapy in The Netherlands and has dedicated years to helping children in Kenya through Kibet4Kids. Alongside her husband, Hugo, she now lives mostly in Kenya to oversee the foundation's projects.

Hugo holds degrees in Human Movement Sciences and Pedagogy. After graduating, he moved to Kenya and fell in love with the country and its culture. As a semi-professional runner who represented The Netherlands at European Championships, Hugo combines his coaching expertise with his passion for Kenya Camp Running Camps in Iten, Kenya, working tirelessly to support the community and Kibet4Kids initiatives.

Building Schools and Creating Impact in Rural Kenya

On November 11, 2014, Hilda Kibet and her sister Sylvia Kibet (two-time World Championships silver medalist) laid the first stones for new classrooms at Kolol Primary School. The community had already prepared the terrain and dug foundations, while contractor Birech ensured materials were ready.

The school, like many in rural Kenya, faces challenges such as overcrowded classrooms (with over 70 students per class), lack of textbooks, desks, and study materials. The local government has limited resources, often prioritizing urban schools. Kibet4Kids fills this gap by directly investing in infrastructure and educational support in impoverished communities.

Community Involvement Is Key

Hilda, Sylvia, and Hugo emphasized to the Kolol community that success requires active participation. It’s not enough to build classrooms — parents and children must also commit to education and create a supportive environment. With collaboration, Kibet4Kids aims to transform Kolol Primary School into a top-quality institution comparable to those in major towns, offering children a chance to become future doctors, teachers, nurses, and lawyers.

Hilda’s Journey and Vision

Growing up in rural Kenya, Hilda knew hardship firsthand. Daily chores like fetching water and firewood left little time for study. Education was a luxury, and many classmates never progressed beyond primary school.

With the help of a friend’s family who could afford textbooks, Hilda excelled academically. Running opened new doors, offering the possibility of a scholarship. Instead of going to the U.S., she chose to study physiotherapy in The Netherlands, encouraged by Hugo. After graduating, she reached world-class running levels. Despite her success, Hilda remains committed to Kenya. Kibet4Kids has no overhead costs since we all do this as a voluntary job. No salaries and expenses are being paid. All money is spent on improving education, healthcare and improverished communities creating opportunities and hope for Kenya’s next generation.
