The Pond Loop Iten: Terrain Running Route in Kenya
The pond loop in Iten, Kenya, is named after the large pond that it passes half way - right after you leave the tarmac road to Eldoret behind you and turn left onto the dirt trail. They could have also called it hill loop, since right after the pond, there is an 800m long tough hill that characterizes this route. Since decades, Kenyan and foreign athletes have used this route for their hillwork session: warm-up 4km to the hill, then do a session of hill intervals (either the full length, or just 200-400m uphill), and cool-down for another 4km. Whether you run it up fast or slow, this hill requires some strength!
